Creamy Maple Frosting

  1. Mix icing sugar (sift, if lumpy), salt and egg. Blend in syrup. Add shortening and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
  2. If frosting is too thick to spread easily, add water. If frosting is too thin, add icing sugar.
  3. This is enough frosting to ice a round double layer cake. It is perfect for my favorite "Butter Pecan' Duncan Hines cake! Everyone loves it.

I cut the icing sugar down to 2 cups and did it up on the double boiler very slowly to not over cook the egg. It was okay on DH spice cake but I don't know if I would use it again

I've used this recipe since I was about 10 years old, I'm now 57. Very good taste, especially with the Duncan Hines Spice Cake Mix.
