Chocolate Orange Marble Cake in a Wilton Horseshoe cake pan

This is chocolate orange marble cake with orange marmalade frosting is delicious and moist. Great for horse lovers!

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Flour and grease cake pan. I used a Wilton Horseshoe pan.
  3. Combine cake mix, eggs, vanilla extract, sour cream, vegetable oil, sugar and water. Beat on high for around 3 minutes.
  4. Divide the batter into three parts. Leave one part as is for the vanilla batter.
  5. For the chocolate batter, add cocoa powder from packet that comes with the mix and melt 1/6 cup chocolate chips. Stir the melted chocolate into the batter, mix well. Mix in the rest of the chocolate chips.
  6. For the orange batter, add 1 tsp orange zest plus 1 tsp orange extract.
  7. Alternately add vanilla batter, chocolate batter and then the orange batter to the cake pan. Swirl the batters with a butter knife to create the marble effect. I wasn't sure how to marble, so I watched a you tube video on how to marble cake.
  8. In my oven, this cake baked perfectly at 31 minutes in a Wilton horseshoe cake pan.
  9. Cool for 10 minutes in pan, remove from pan and place on cooling rack.
  10. Spread the icing on the cake when it has cooled completely, about 1 hour.
  11. Add chocolate buttons and squares to make it look more like a horseshoe.
  12. Orange Marmalade Frosting
  13. Ingredients
  14. 1/2 cup butter, softened
  15. 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  16. 2-3 tbsp orange juice
  17. 2 tbsp orange marmalade
  18. Instructions
  19. Place butter in a large mixing bowl.
  20. Beat with an electric or stand mixer on low speed until fluffy--about 30 seconds.
  21. Add powdered sugar and 2 tbsp orange juice.
  22. Blend on low speed until sugar is incorporated.
  23. Stir in the orange marmalade.
  24. Beat on medium speed until light and fluffy--about 2 minutes.
  25. Blend in up to 1 tbsp of remaining orange juice if the frosting seems stiff.
  26. Frost your cake!
